Kim Birch
Kim Birch is one of Denmark’s most recognised gambling experts. He spent more than two decades as a professional poker and blackjack player, authored Denmark’s first major book on online poker in 2005, and has been Editor-in-Chief at BETO Slots since January 2019. On Roulette Demo, he writes the rules, systems, history, and guide articles.

About Kim Birch
Kim Birch was born in 1978 and raised just outside Esbjerg on the Danish west coast, in a fishing family. He began his professional gambling career in 1999, shortly after completing his military service with the Danish Royal Guards. By the mid-2000s he was widely described as the first Danish poker professional, and by 2005 he was a recognisable figure during the Danish poker boom thanks to his books, his weekly newspaper column, and his cash-game and tournament play in Denmark and abroad.
Over the following two decades, Kim built up more than 20 years of hands-on experience at casino tables worldwide, primarily in Texas Hold’em No-Limit and blackjack. He invested thousands of hours and substantial sums into studying probability, expected value, and game theory - the mathematical underpinnings that distinguish a winning approach from a losing one. That research is what now shapes his editorial voice: explain the math first, then the rules, then the practical play.
Since retiring from active tournament play around 2019, Kim has focused on editorial and educational work. His goal is to help readers separate mathematical edges from luck, recognise the role of variance in short-term results, and play more responsibly when real money is involved.

Kim has written three books on casino games. The first two are still held in most Danish public libraries and helped shape how a generation of Danish players learned the games.

Editor-in-Chief, BETO Slots (since 1 January 2019)
Kim leads content management for both the Danish and international versions of BETO Slots (beto.com), the publisher of Roulette Demo. He oversees the editorial team, fact-checks new articles, sets standards for mathematical accuracy in gambling content, and writes long-form guides on baccarat, blackjack betting systems, roulette, and slots.
Subject Matter Expert, lex.dk (Danish national encyclopedia)
Kim is the fagansvarlig (responsible subject matter expert) for casino games at lex.dk, Denmark’s national encyclopedia. He oversees the accuracy and updates of encyclopedia entries on blackjack, poker, baccarat, chemin de fer, and related casino topics, and is credited as the author of four articles on the platform.
Columnist, Tipsbladet (c. 2005-2008)
Kim wrote the weekly PokerHjørnet ("Poker Corner") column in Tipsbladet, Denmark’s leading sports betting newspaper. The column answered reader questions on poker strategy and gambling skill and ran for several years through the peak of Denmark’s poker boom.
Certification
Kim holds a 2019-2020 certification in Investing & Gambling, Risk and Return from Deakin University, formalising the probability and risk framework he uses in his writing.
Tournament & Live Play
Kim competed both online and live for more than 20 years. The headline live result is the 2005 World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas, where he advanced to Day 2 of one of the largest fields in poker history. Beyond that single tournament, his record is best described as long, consistent, and worldwide rather than dominated by major cashes - thousands of hours played against strong opponents in Denmark, the rest of Europe, and the United States.
Kim is no longer active as a tournament player. The shift began around 2019 with his appointment at BETO Slots and a deliberate move toward editorial work and player education.
Areas of Expertise
Kim’s writing is built on three pillars that recur in every article on Roulette Demo:
- Probability. The mathematical framework for the likelihood of an outcome - the chance of a red number on European roulette, the chance of a six-card 21 in blackjack, the chance of any specific cycle length in Oscar’s Grind.
- Expected value (EV). The average long-term result of a decision repeated many times. Kim consistently distinguishes positive-EV play (which exists in a few games under specific conditions) from negative-EV play (the default in roulette and most casino games).
- Variance and game theory. How short-term streaks can look very different from long-term averages, why betting systems organise variance rather than remove it, and where strategic decision-making genuinely shifts outcomes.

Writing Approach
Kim writes in a structured, answer-first style. Each section opens with a direct answer to the implied question in the heading, followed by a short explanation and a concrete example or worked-through scenario. The aim is to make the underlying mechanics clearly visible - even to a beginner - while staying accurate enough to satisfy a player who has been at the table for years.
The voice is deliberately calm and analytical. No hype, no guaranteed-win claims, no inflated language. When a betting system can fail, the article says so. When a casino variant has a worse house edge, the article says so. When something is folklore rather than math, the article calls it folklore.
